The fall 2020 season is already well underway with the broadcast of series as interesting as each other. We were already interested in a thriller available at Wakanim, Ikebukuro West Gate Park. This time, we invite you to discover Magatsu Wahrheit: Zuerst, an anime mixing action, magic and fantasy! This article is written after watching the first three episodes of the series and may therefore contain risks of SPOILS!
Magatsu Wahrheit as Zuerst
Adapted from the smartphone game, Magatsu Wahrheit: Zuerst is an anime available on the legal streaming platform Wakanim. On the animation side, we find the Yokohama Animation Lab studio (Yakusoku no Nanaya Matsuri). The number of episodes is still unknown. This adaptation should be a prequel to the game.
Once, many inhabitants of the Wahrheit Empire were decimated and it was predicted that the "evil light" that had unleashed ferocious monsters in the world would reappear and eradicate mankind. The story focuses on the fate of young inhabitants of the Empire: the small and shy Inumael, who works as a delivery man, and the naïve Leocadio, newly arrived in the Empire. Their fate and the course of history will be completely turned upside down following a dark history of smuggling.

An eventful first day!
First, let's talk about the script of this new adaptation by Hosoda Naoto (Mirai Nikki). We discover from the first minutes of the first episode Leocadio, a young soldier who is just starting his career. Indeed, the latter begins his very first day with the uniform of the empire. The second, Inumael, is a delivery man who unfortunately had no luck. Indeed, following the unplanned loading of parcels, Inumael will find himself in a dark case of smuggling that will upset all his daily life. We quickly discover that the world in which our two protagonists live is far from peaceful. Indeed, monsters seem to make their appearances randomly and sow trouble among the villagers. The soldiers of the empire therefore have the objectives, among other things, to kill these monsters falling from the sky. However, everything does not seem so easy since political conspiracies seem to be part of history. Currently, it is quite complicated to say more about this since, although we have had a glimpse of Her Majesty and Parliament, few details have been revealed about it. The first few minutes of the episode set a framework that is quite blurry.
Between shadow and light!
During these first three episodes, we had the pleasure of discovering fight scenes, especially at the end of the first episode. Passages with more emotions are also part of the game. If you are not fans of violence or blood, we advise you to go your way since it seems to be an integral part of the series. In addition, the episodes are well paced. Indeed, whether during the fight scenes, dialogues or simply during the transition phases, no passage seemed "useless". One of the strong points of this anime is that there doesn't seem to be the good guys on one side and the bad guys on the other. Indeed, although the smugglers are the enemies of the empire, they nevertheless work for the protection of the population. We don't know their different goals yet, but we should learn more in future episodes.
An appreciable atmosphere!
Regarding the animation, the graphics are good, the characters are well represented and easily differentiable. In addition, whether it is sadness, anger or fear, we can easily distinguish the different emotions they can feel. However, although shadow has a prominent place in this series, the color contrast is not always appropriate and some passages taking place at night are sometimes difficult to appreciate. Finally, it also happens that some movements are jerky. However, this does not disturb the viewing of the episodes in any way. In addition, regarding the soundtrack, none of the music particularly caught our attention. However, they remain adapted to the themes of the series. Conversely, the opening is very appreciable. Indeed, the animation is very simple, refined, but associated with the title "If I Can Save You I'll Be Anything You Want" by Maon Kurosaki, it takes on a whole new dimension. Indeed, although there are no words, the sounds transport us to a world that is both peaceful and full of terror. This opening, although different, made us think of that of a series also available at Wakanim, Shingeki No Kyojin. It reminds us how much an opening can make us vibrate. This adaptation is, for the moment, very pleasant to discover. The next episodes should transport us to the heart of the story. How will our two protagonists evolve? We don't know anything yet, but we can't wait to find out! While waiting for the broadcast of the next episodes, we invite you to discover the anime Noblesse, a more than promising adaptation of the manhwa of Jae-Ho Son and Gwang-Su Lee!
