Shy continues his atypical path in the landscape of current manga. Guarantor of a new generation of shônen, the series does not pale in comparison to behemoths like Jujutsu Kaisen or My Hero Academia. With this new volume, Bukimi Miki proves once again that his protagonists are not limited to their heroic talent.
Previously…
After the Dantesque battle that took place in Tokyo, Shy and his cronies find themselves at the base to interrogate Mademoiselle Foufou, a member of Amalarilk. The Japanese heroine, in possession of the ring bequeathed by Mai, then develops a new transformation by passing it to her finger! Could the intense connection between his heart and that of his opponents or friends be the cause?
In any case, Stigma now sees in the young heroine a particularly sharp threat. The enigmatic leader of Amalarilk then launches his troops into a hunt that promises to be merciless!
Shy, Volume 10: I Need a Hero
In this tenth volume, the threat that Amalarilk poses to the world becomes even greater. Although his show of strength in the heart of Tokyo ended in a serious setback, Stigma seems determined to take his project to the next level. But this will inevitably involve a head-on clash with the heroes, including one of them: Shy!
Indeed, the extraordinary ability of the girl to literally enter the hearts of others, constitutes a formidable counterpoint to her own powers. If one uses his ability to "corrupt" and the other to "liberate", each aims at the "deliverance" of the hearts they touch. By erecting Shy and Stigma as two sides of the same coin, Bukimi Miki brings to the forefront a questioning of freedom and the weight of morality. Thus, like Dr. Jekyll confronted with his terrible Mister Hyde, "heroes" and "villains" are actually fighting for the same ideal, where the only difference lies in the point of view adopted to contemplate him.
Shy : The Definition of Heroism
Beyond this direct confrontation between these two protagonists, the character of Shy continues his quest to discover what makes the essence of a hero or heroine. Sometimes demotivated, the young Japanese nevertheless learns to accept her flaws and look her qualities in the face. The meeting with singer Nagi confirms the fact that there is no need for great bright actions to bring light into someone's heart.
In addition, the parenthesis in the form of a tribute to the Japan Expo where Shy goes with Lavoir will strike the heart of any fan of manga and anime. Indeed, these few pages remind us how much this passion can be saving, pushing us to give the best, to open up to others but also to proudly assume ourselves as we are. We also enjoy the many nods to other works, first and foremost Lavoir's cosplay… which could just as easily be a spoiler !
This adventure in a great convention and the meeting with a mysterious girl in the school library allow Shy but also the readers to breathe. Because after the battle of Tokyo, a new fight is looming, with, in the center, poor Teru!
Revelations approaching?
Indeed, the last chapters of this volume make us pass almost without transition from a school adventure to a fight for survival! Because Shy unexpectedly meets new members of Amalarilk, fortunately in his civilian form. From the initial misunderstanding, however, arises a very dangerous situation for the heroine, especially since these new opponents seem even more powerful than those encountered so far.
The sensational arrival of a group of heroes avoids breakage but also brings its share of questions. Because the so-called Nirvana, presented as the "most powerful hero in the world", may well hold crucial information about the origins of Shy's powers! A door to the past is opening, even as the future seems increasingly uncertain…
In conclusion, this tenth volume of Shy makes even more concrete the threat represented by Amalarilk. The arrival of Nirvana and his acolytes (including Indra, which makes us irresistibly think of a mix between Denki and Eijiro from My Hero Academia) expands the constellation of heroes. Undoubtedly, the next volumes will be those of revelations… So go quickly to the bookstore to get the next volume, released at the beginning of the month!
