Olivier Vuagniaux, the author of the manifesto "The conscious body", is a psychotherapist who trained for fifteen years with Muriel Sarkissoff, wife of Dr. Jean Sarkissoff who is at the origin of a body psychotherapy which consists of being active during the sessions, being present through contact, by placing his hand on the patient's belly. The goal is to give voice to the body which has a role just as important as the mind in the evolution of the consciousness of the psychological self.
We have two brains
It is increasingly common to hear scientists say that we have two brains: the first is the brain brain and the second is the intestinal brain. Indeed, the intestines are traversed by a very dense mesh of neurons. This belly brain has a very active role at the physiological level. The originality of Dr. Olivier Vuagniaux's psychotherapeutic approach is to postulate that these two brains are in constant dialogue, and in fact, that the intestinal brain, like the cerebral brain, has a central function in the evolution of the consciousness of the psychological self, and therefore of its sufferings and disorders.
Mental awareness and body awareness
The body is conscious: its consciousness is partly integrated into the second brain, the ventral brain. And this consciousness is perceived by sensations. Hence the need for contact with the patient. And since the two brains are in constant dialogue, they cannot be dissociated from each other during this psychotherapy. Both mental awareness and body awareness therefore have a role to play in the patient's healing.
Rediscover the pleasure of living, the pleasure of living, bodily
To put the body and its consciousness at the center of the process is to redeploy serotonin, the neurotransmitters of the pleasure of living. And it is this feeling of pleasure of life that is sought after and at the center of this psychotherapy.
The fruit of nearly thirty years of practice in body psychotherapy
This manifesto took the form of the conduct of sessions of Dr. Olivier Vuagniaux. We follow the dialogues between the patients and the doctor, the latter having a hand placed on their stomach to "feel" what is happening inside their body and communicate with them about their disorders. Discover the notion of body awareness, understand what the body says, find its place in the relationship to oneself, to others and to the environment… The process is very long.
The conscious body: a manifesto in two volumes, by Olivier Vuagniaux
This long process therefore requires two volumes to be developed. And you will understand, they are not so easy to read because they are quite technical. Fortunately, Dr. Olivier Vuagniaux explains many possible points in an imagined way. We can take the example of Russian dolls that comes up often, because it allows us to understand the evolution of the psychological self and the fact that a childhood trauma can be at the origin of a disorder, psychosis or neurosis in adulthood. There are also tales and mythologies that are revisited to understand what is happening in the human body. It's very original, also intriguing at times, because what is said in this manifesto is consistent, while the analogies made with stories like those of Cinderella or Sleeping Beauty seem far-fetched at first. And yet, the doctor relies on sessions that he has actually practiced; The experiences lived, the dreams told, the stories of his patients… Everything is true!
