While the reboot of Mortal Kombat has had its American release, the film may not remain without a sequel… Good news for fatalities. While the reboot of Mortal Kombat has been released across the Atlantic (in theaters and on HBO Max, like all Warner films in 2021), the film could well be the starting point of a new franchise. In any case, that's what Joe Taslim, the interpreter of the Glacial Sub-Zero, suggested. In an interview with Variety, the actor revealed by The Raid said that he has signed on for four potential sequels, if success is at the rendezvous.  This practice is common in Hollywood. This allows the studios to guarantee the return of the cast without a new contract. But it is also indicative of a certain optimism on the side of Warner, while video game adaptations on the big screen are rarely successful, as Warcraft or Assassin's Creed have recently proved. It is recalled that Paul W.S. Anderson had previously directed a film based on the video game. It had also had a calamitous sequel. So 26 years later, it is Simon McQuoid who signs this reboot (and his first feature film at the same time). If the fighting promises to be much more violent, with bloody fatalities at the key, the story remains the same. It will be a tournament between the best fighters on the planet in order to save our world.  If the hero, Cole Young (Lewis Tan) was created for the occasion, some iconic characters will be there: Kung Lao (Max Huang), Sonya Blade (Jessica McNamee), Jax (Mehcad Brooks), Raiden (Tadanobu Asano), Liu Kang (Ludi Lin) or Kano (Josh Lawson). Not to mention Scorpion (Hiroyuki Sanada) and Sub-Zero, whose personal story should serve as a common thread for the film. With Joe Taslim's statement, we can therefore think that the story of his character could continue in possible sequels and allow to integrate absentees like Johnny Cage. While waiting to know the answers to all your questions, we invite you to discover the first seven minutes of the reboot of Mortal Kombat: https://youtu.be/5AELxM1X098
