Ola Kvernberg returns on June 11 with Steamdome II – The Hypogean, an ambitious album unlike anything known. The Norwegian composer astounds by his mastery and originality. We discover on JustFocus how this extraordinary musical project was born. Surrounded by a host of musicians from the Norwegian scene, Ola Kvernberg offers us a festival of bifurcations and deviant axes, which are reminiscent of the energy and approach of Jaga Jazzist or OJKOS. Here and there there there are musical nods to Gustav Mahler, Fela Kuti, ELP, John Williams, Kraftwerk, Caetano Veloso, YES and Squarepusher: this is the soundtrack to Ola Kvernberg's life! Several times nominated and awarded at the Norwegian Grammy Awards for his work. He is also a well-known film composer: nominated for the Grand Scores of Cinema in Germany and winner of the Amandaprisen and Kanonprisen awards in Norway and Guldbaggen in Sweden. The riot of finds and breakups is just frightening, mixing classical and jazz music, afrobeat and rhythmic explosions à la Squarepusher. Steamdome II: The Hypogean that with each listening releases new sensations and new emotions, a series of surprising atmospheres with intense creativity. With her new album, Ola Kvernberg takes us on a journey by drilling the surface of the earth. With the DNA of a jazz musician, nods to world music, progressive rock, electronic dance music, and the flair of a composer of film scores. On Steamdome II – The Hypogean, the musicians also step out of their usual roles. Ola replaces his violin with a drum machine and synthetic bass sync, bassist Nikolai Hængsle takes the guitar and Daniel Formo abandons his Hammond organ to ignite the soundscape with homemade machines.
