Jason Dupasquier had fallen in the last moments of qualifying. After about forty minutes of intervention by rescuers, the 19-year-old Swiss "polytraumatized and in a serious condition" was transferred by medical helicopter to the trauma center of the Careggi Hospital in Florence. The hospital, for its part, confirmed to AFP "the beginning of the procedure for determining brain death, due to serious brain damage incompatible with its survival". The young pilot had "undergone overnight thoracic surgery for a vascular injury," the hospital told AFP in the morning. Tributes in his honour
