The legendary Cruella d'Enfer is back with this punk-like origin story from the 70s! 
Disney delights us with the revival of great classics in anime, this giant impresses us and knows how to highlight his creations like Pirates of the Caribbean, or Maleficient which was a great success in 2014. This year, it's another big Disney villain who is on the bill: Cruella! The film is obviously inspired by the iconic cartoon 101 Dalmatians (1961), itself based on Dodie Smith's novel (1956). Cruella de Vil is a rich, somewhat degenerate woman with black and white hair. Known for being cruel and evil, Cruella is a fashion designer, obsessed with fur. One of her desires is to create a fur coat of Dalmatian puppies, hence her obsession with Dalmatians, whom she hates!
At the origin of Cruella: Estella
In this ante-episode, Craig Gillespie returns to the childhood of d'Estella aka Cruella. Estella is a creative and gifted little rebel, school is for her a hell, she feels different and above all, she chains nonsense after nonsense! Estella is born with two-tone hair and has a bipolar behavior with on one side her identity Estella, the nice little girl, and on the other, Cruella, the rebellious little girl! This rivalry between her two personalities will be the subject of a real fight to the death of which the great Cruella De Vil will be the winner. 
After a sad event, Estella will sink into delinquency in order to survive especially when she meets Horace and Jasper, pickpocket orphans. But Estella is tired of this life made of crime, she dreams of becoming a fashion designer! She will also be noticed by the great fashion figure of London in the 1970s: Baroness von Hellman. Estella will then blossom in this life of creator where her creations make a lot of effect, until the day when Cruella wakes up, giving way to an icy revenge! 
Cruella the antiheroine of hell
With this new Disney, we trace the history of Estella and how Cruella gradually dominated him. This Origin story leads us to see Cruella from a completely different angle. Indeed, here, we do not have a horrible Cruella, except at the moment when she takes the big head, we have a gifted Cruella, creative and who has the intelligence to see her problems, including her bipolarity from an early age. She admits to Cruella to have a "grain of madness" and that this madness is actually her true face, Estella was only a character to make her mother proud and not to cause problems. 
With Cruella, down with the clichés! No puppy fur (though), no lovers and besides no love story in this Disney. This ambitious villain with a taste for punk fashion and atypical makes us laugh, yes yes you read correctly, the humor of Disney mixed with this punk madness gives sparkle to our not-so-nasty villain! Cruella also dazzles us with her creations, she surpasses herself to dethrone the Baroness and it makes an effect!
The duel of the talented Emma Stone and Emma Thompson
Emma Stone is dazzling in the role of Cruella, her sweet side that we find in La la land agrees with Estella, and we discover a crazy Emma Stone but who suits her terribly well! Her talent and charm make Cruella a villain for whom we have sympathy. Emma Thompson plays the very narcissistic, snobbish and haughty Baroness, a role she plays wonderfully! The Baroness is a Machiavellian psychopath, and the acting of our dear Emma Thompson is perfect! She does not overdo it, her presence and her Comic Timing delight us and make us laugh! 
This duet between these two very talented Emmas is simply perfect, the two actresses have been able to make their characters live and transmit strong emotions, it is a successful bet for this duel of shock!
The punk music and scenery of Cruella!
What is just as appreciable in this Cruella are the London scenery immersed in the 70s. Even if some will say that these years were far from being the most beautiful for the capital, in Cruella, it is very successful and it gives a big boost to the villain Dalmatians! The costumes and especially the creations of Estella are purely beautiful and all this fashion side is really successful. The choice of music is superb, especially when we are in the cinema. What a pleasure to listen to Sympathy For The Devil, Thèse Boots Are Made For Walkin' or Should I Stay Or Should I Go : a pure treat! The playlist is varied but tends towards this punk side that is found absolutely everywhere in this Cruella. An atypical choice for a Disney but which succeeds very well.
