How about discovering a series mixing comedy, slice of lice and shojo ai? It's possible with Police in a Pod, the new anime that plunges you directly into the daily life of Japanese police officers!
Police in a Pod / Hakozume: Kouban Joshi no Gyakushuu
Police in a Pod, adapted from the eponymous manga by Yasu Miko, is broadcast since January 05, 2022 on Wakanim. The manga, currently with 19 volumes in Japan, is expected to be published in France by noeve grafx by April 2022. A drama with 9 episodes was also released last year.
"Kawai, a young policewoman, can't stand her job anymore. On her way to give her letter of resignation, she meets the new director of her police station. After spending time with her new superior, who becomes a real role model, she decides to stay in the police a little longer… "
An interesting first episode
Police in a Pod takes us into the daily life of Kawai, a young recruit of the Japanese police. While the latter chose this job only for financial stability, she quickly realizes the hard and thankless side of this job. Preparing to resign, she meets Inspector Fuji, her new superior. That's when the adventure begins. In this first episode, we are quickly introduced to the basics of anime. A quick introduction to Kawai, the main character and a very brief introduction to the other characters. This casts doubt on the new arrival of the police station. We were told at the outset that she had been transferred because of harassment of one of these colleagues. Nothing very reassuring in itself, especially for our blue. However, very quickly, Inspector Fuji appears to us as sympathetic, although sometimes disturbing. This anime is meant to be comical and this is felt throughout the episode. Comic situation, word, gesture, … Everything is there to make you laugh, or at least smile. And for this first episode, it's pretty well dosed. The humor is not too heavy and achieves its goal without too much difficulty. However, this first episode is also quite "flat". Although this is slice of life, we hope that the next episodes will be more rhythmic. On the animation side, we were pleased to find the Madhouse animation studio (One Punch Man, Death Note). And as usual, the studio provides us with quality work. The graphics are neat and the animation is fluid. You will not be disappointed, we guarantee it!
An anime that breaks the codes?
It is quite rare to see an anime interested in the work of a police officer. The criminal inspectors have several series to their credit. As said in the episode, they are often highlighted on TV or in the movies. And that's not totally wrong. This time, let's look at the officers who patrol the streets every day. And, we must admit, it does not sell dreams. Insults, assaults and injuries, the officers are confronted with the harsh reality of the street, and this is the strong point of this first episode. Indeed, nothing is passed over in silence. We are not sold young agents full of life, putting balm in the hearts of all the inhabitants. On the contrary, we see them being insulted by part of the population, because they are part of the police. It is interesting to see a series showing the reality of this work. In addition, the Kawai/Fuji duo also looks very interesting. A blue woman with preconceptions about the police and an inspector far from the stereotype of the nice policewoman, it promises to make sparks! We hope that our two protagonists will be exploited more deeply. Indeed, although this is only the first episode, the appeal for these two agents is quite strong. They did not leave us marble, either of them. The first episode of Police in a Pod was enjoyable to watch. The latter changes from the usual series based on the font. This anime seems to have a lot of potential, so we hope that it will be properly exploited, much to our delight. For those who would like to immerse themselves in a good manga while waiting for the release of the next episode, we invite you to discover Shangri La-frontier !
