A feature film mixing tragedy and romanticism

As his 65th birthday approaches, William Parrish receives a visit from the death who wishes to take him with her. Death agrees to bargain with the CEO to live until the big party planned in his honor. In exchange, he must welcome her so that she can discover earthly pleasures. Death then takes the appearance of a man named Joe Black. Disoriented by this temporary life, Joe Black eventually finds refuge with his victim. There he met his daughter, Susan. From there, a true Shakespearean love story is born that keeps us in suspense until the end of the film. The film, strongly inspired by Mitchell Leisen's " Death Takes a Vacation" in 1934, treats the macabre subject with a poetic and moving approach. The choice of casting is such that we do not know if to take sides for the beautiful Brad Pitt deprived of his grim reaper or for the moving Anthony Hopkins in the role of a father on the verge of death. Although we only learn the fate of the father at the end of the film, everything leads us to believe that the end will be tragic. And so, it's hard to imagine a happy ending for the two characters who both seem to lose a loved one. Bill Parrish would lose his two loving daughters while Joe Black would lose the one who made him discover human feelings. A height for death! To discover one of the mythical scenes of the film:

From forbidden love to the approach of mourning

The charismatic and mysterious portrait of death stands in the benevolent atmosphere of a family preparing to celebrate the father's birthday. Love is at the center of the film along with Bill and Susan's fusional relationship and the discovery of Joe's feelings towards Susan. Death seems to be trapped in the workings of love. His character, although dark and funereal, even ends up touching us. Faced with Joe Black's first emotions in love and the development of his feelings towards Susan, we end up wondering if the purpose of this romance will be tragic and heartbreaking or if, on the contrary, Joe will succumb to love and thus, agree to let the father live and stay by his lover's side. And so that the outcome is not predictable, Martin Brest took care to develop each theme without leaving any clues, leaving us in suspense during these three hours as to the conclusion of this whole story. Throughout his work, we witness the birth of a cursed love, the tumultuous triangle and the sacrifice of a daughter for her father. 1568042181627453 Rencontre avec Joe Black 2 Meet Joe Black by Martin Brest: a classic to review In summary: For fans of romantic comedies who keep you on their toes for many hours: Meet Joe Black is the movie for you.
