Almost a year after the release of her sensational album Sour, the Sour Tour takes Olivia Rodrigo to Paris. It ignited Tuesday, June 21 the stage of the Zenith of Paris and the fans are not disappointed! Wreaths, sequins, banners and confetti, all punctuated by a playlist worthy of an American teen-drama: the 19-year-old singer plunged us into the heart of her prom.
Who is Olivia Rodrigo?
It's hard not to know her, when her album Sour, supported by the singles Driver's Licence, Good For You, Deja-Vu, has been an international sensation for more than a year… Californian, she is also half Filipino on her father's side. Olivia Rodrigo was spotted at the age of 16 with her role as Gabriela Montez in High School Musical: The Musical: The series (the Disney+ remake of the eponymous cult films starring Zac Effron and Vanessa Hudgens). She meets on the set Joshua Bassett (Troy Bolton) with whom she will quickly become a couple. From this relationship stems a large part of the pieces that appear on Sour: we told you about it in a dedicated article. After having teased it through very gripping singles, Olivia Rodrigo unveils last June Sour, her first album. It is all the rage with young and old, because of its hybridity of genres (exquisite mix of pop, rock, ultra pop,…) and his astounding sincerity. A well-deserved return to adolescence for some!
Sour Tour and concert at the Zénith de Paris
The dates of the Sour Tour were announced last December and within minutes. Modest, Olivia only performs in small venues and, after only a few minutes, no chance of getting a seat. The tour then began in April with the date in Portland and will end with the last European in London. Meanwhile, Olivia passed through Paris last night, and ignited the Zenith alongside her musicians and her first part Baby Queen. If the concert officially begins at 19:00 with the entrance of Baby Queen, the audience warms up an hour before, with the playlist prepared by Olivia. Conan Gray, Harry Styles, Riton & Kah-Lo, artists carefully selected to immerse the audience in a teen-drama and prom atmosphere, in continuity with its communication campaign. Baby Queen, known for writing the song 'colors of you' which appears in the series Heartstopper, then shakes the floor of the room with his pop-rock music for 30 minutes, interacting with the crowd and presenting his songs, which like Olivia, speak a lot to the new generation (heart problems, Internet addiction, self-confidence problems…). After encouraging the crowd to cheer Olivia, Baby Queen takes time off and the waiting playlist resumes more beautifully. Fans take pictures, buy food and drink, but above all, the line does not end at the goodies stand. T-shirt, tiara, tote-bag, banners… What to prepare while waiting for the star! Most spectators are dressed in the colors of the album Sour: at least one lilac-colored garment or accessory. And finally, the curtain lights up and displays the name of the tour in purple to the cheers of fans singing "Olivia" by One Direction, broadcast on the speakers. A recurring choice on the part of Olivia Rodrigo. The music stops. Resumes on the first notes of Brutal. Olivia's long-awaited appearance. The concert finally begins. Overall the concert is successful. No dancers or choreographies, Olivia let off steam on stage, she jumps, screams, throws herself on the floor and lies on her piano. It seems to promote sincerity and authenticity to the usual hassles that we ask singers and we like it! She salutes the crowd and drops a few words in French but is still a little reserved. His voice does not crack on the fast tempo of Good For You, nor on the sweet ballad of Hope Ur Ok. A remarkable performance, which was unanimous among the fans: no regrets. Finally, the only complaint we can make to this concert is that, despite his songs and the few covers, we remain on our hunger. Olivia's concert didn't last an hour, which is almost as long as Baby Queen… That said, it was a remarkable first concert, especially when you know the French fans… We thank Olivia and all her team for the quality of the performance and the authenticity of the concert! And we can't wait to see her again, of course.
