For its twelfth edition, the Days off festival returns this year with a
varied program. The festival starts on July 2nd, excluding extra-dates, with the concert of Jarvis Cocker who
interpreted Songs of boredom tip-top. The first part was Lisa Hannigan.
Irish artist, regular at the Days Off festival, Lisa Hannigan interpreted her
songs, and confessed to us that she was delighted to be back in Paris, on stage, after two
years of pandemic. Jarvis Cocker, former singer of Pulp, then went on stage to perform revisited songs, hits of the French song for the film The French Dispatch; such as "Aline" by Christophe, "La tendresse", "Paroles Paroles", or "Amour, je te cherche". The festival continued with concerts by Wooden Elephant, Echo Collective
, Kings of Convenience, St Vincent and Koki Nakano.
The Hexagon evening of Days Off
The Days Off festival also puts rap in the spotlight this year with
the Hexagone evening, an evening related to the Hip Hop 360 exhibition. The exhibition Hip Hop
360 proposes to go back to the origins of Hip Hop and to understand the evolution of
this musical genre. The exhibition is on view until July 24 at the Philharmonie de
Paris. The Hexagon evening is five hours non-stop of music, no time for festival-goers
to breathe, but rather to continue dancing and singing. The
evening begins with a twenty-five minute DJ set by Gaspar (Son of Venus) and continues with
Sheldon. Sheldon, from the collective of rappers, videographers and photographers 75th session, also has his solo career including the album Lune
Noire in 2019, and more recently Spectre in 2021.
He surprises us by inviting the
artist Zinée, a rapper from Toulouse that we had already met during the
Mama festival 2021 edition, and who transports us again, this time
in the company of Sheldon, in his dark universe. They give us the pleasure to interpret two feats
: "Infini" and "Orchidée". It is then the turn of Vicky R to take over, an artist who must be followed closely, because her meteoric rise in rap can not be long in coming. The evening continues with Chilla, who gives us the pleasure of interpreting his most famous songs like "first day of school", "Demain", his feat with Hatik or AHOO, a single from the documentary Reines pour l'amour du rap of Canal +, a song shared with Bianca Costa, Davinhor, Le Juiice and Vicky R. Chilla also gives us excludes of her next album.
Bamao Yendé & Friends take over, just enough time for Benjamin Epps to
prepare his entrance on the scene. Benjamin Epps, known for his headline "You're not
happy? It's the same", ignited the pit and even invited Seth Gueko
to join him to interpret their feat: "Last poets", to the delight of
festival-goers. The evening ended, as it had begun with a DJ set by
Gaspar (Son of Venus). The Days Off festival continues until Wednesday, July 13 with its last date
dedicated to the artist Celeste. Astrid Chedoz
